What is so amazing about this speech is that it was written six decades ago, and still holds up until this day. William Faulkner spoke of about how everyone is so overcome with fear that they have forgotten the “old verities and truths of the heart.” because of this fear, writers and poets have were straying away from the human heart, which is the basis of all good and meaningful writing. He also states that until a writer can clear his or her mind of fear, they will continually write about superficialities like lust and not of love, almost as if they are ignorant of the hearts truths.
