I basically thought Poe and his story, " The Fall of the House of Usher", was a good one to choose. It has irony, imagination, and description put into it. I enjoyed this short story a lot because of the meaning involved. Poe always finds ways to write the stories that journey inside the mind. Although his life was filled with much death as well as disappointment, Poe always mystified us by his unique style of writing. Many people seem to have various opinions on what this story was exactly about. There are three characters involved: Madeline Usher, Roderick Usher and the narrator whose identity is unknown. of Texas) Poe uses life-like characteristics of an otherwise decaying house as a device for giving the house a supernatural atmosphere. At the beginning you can sense that the supernatural characteristics are present. Upon entrance the narrator sees inside the house as well as the peculiar behavior that dwells inside of it. The narrator seems to be very superstitious and wonders why there are certain things on the walls. He describes; "Upon meeting Usher… The physique of the gray walls the turrets and of the tarn into which they all look down, had at length brought about the moral of his existence." He says this about the Usher's strange behavior in the house. (As well as his own superstitions) He also states; "I endeavored to believe that much if not all of what I felt was due to the phantasmagoric influence of the gloomy furniture in the room."
