this. I think there is conflict between Julian and his mother because Julian thinks that black people should have equal rights and his mother thinks that they should be equal but separate. The bus comes and they board the bus but Julian’s mother concerns not having a black person in a bus.
I felt that most of the exposition took place in the beginning of the first page. For the rest of the story there was mostly rising action. They rides the bus and after some time bus stops and a well dressed African American man boards, sits down, and opens a newspaper. Julian imagines start having a conversation just to make her mom little uncomfortable. But he could not start the conversation. I think in some way Julian is trying to prove that people are not different by their skin color but they are just different by their thinking. Julian than thinks about the another way to prove that all people are same.
