Symbolism In The Great Gatsby

Throughout the novel Fitzgerald uses symbolism quite often. For example Daisy’s voice, the green light at the end of her dock, and the automobiles in the book are three famous symbols. I feel that the green light at the end of her dock was probably one of the most important and meaningful symbols in the whole book.
One possible meaning of the green light is envy. Gatsby can be seen as an envious, jealous character. He once had the love of his life, Daisy, but now she is married to another man. He spends all of his time and effort in an attempt to win back Daisy. He is also envious of many of the wealthy people around his home. in Gatsby’s case. The use of a green light at the end of a landing stage to signal a romantic reunion, is similar to the green light at the end of Daisy's dock, which becomes a key image in The Great Gatsby. The initial appearance of the green light occurs when Nick sees Gatsby for the first time, standing in front of his mansion. The light becomes the symbol of hope for a reunion with Daisy.
Therefore, this is an appropriate symbol of Gatsby’s life. Gatsby is living alone in a world of darkness, trying to find one thing to bring him happiness. His life has had many ups and downs. He finally receives some breaks and is able to do well for himself. The longing in his heart is to have Daisy, but more importantly to have a new hope in his life.
