Marriage can be full of many hardships. These hardships can be overcome, but what happens when these hardships cause you to lose your love for your spouse? In Kate Chopin's "The Story of an Hour", Mrs. Mallard's tragic "loss" of her husband causes her own death as well. This terrible tragedy gives the reader much sympathy towards Mrs. Mallard throughout the story.

one, the best thing to do is to be around family and friends to feel more comforted. It is a bit strange for Mrs. Mallard to immediately want to be alone. The fact that her husband is gone forever causes so much sadness that she cannot bear to be around anyone.
After being alone and gathering her thoughts, Mrs. Mallard comes to the realization that she is "free". When she was alone in her room, Mrs. Mallard was using the time to weigh the pros and cons of her husband's passing. Although her love for her husband was strong, there is always strife within a marriage. Like any normal married couple, there are times when they do not get along and fights begin to occur. Mrs. Mallard realizes that now there is no more stress because she is no longer a married woman. This one positive part to a terrible situation is somewhat comforting to her.
