The movie Terms of Endearment has many links to Meditation 17. The first main point of the writing is the part about no man being alone. “No man is an island entire of itself…every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main”. This quote relates to many characters in the film, in different ways for each of them. Aurora links herself to this quote because the beginning and middle parts of the film she seemed and felt alone in her life, and love life. She seemed to be alone and always had something missing in her life. Garret feels like he needs to be with numerous girls, mostly younger, because otherwise he feels alone. He gets basically tamed by Aurora and realizes he isn’t alone with one girl.
Aurora’s actions were caused by the illness of her daughter and the fact the Garret stopped caring about everything they ever had. Garret showed that she was not alone in a time of need. He came all the way to Nebraska to see her and her daughter to show that they were not alone.

Flap is the most obvious, by deceiving his wife and neglecting his kids at some points. He shows that he puts no effort and seems that he does not want to be with Emma like Satan not wanting the same things as God. The same goes for Emma by neglecting her kids, and cheating.
