Texas Chainsaw Massacre

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, (1974).

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre to me is the most terrifying grindhouse title of all time. A person could just read it off the movie poster or hear it within a commercial and become completely drawn to the idea. Grindhouse Theater in general references small, seedy theaters in slum parts of town. Typically, you would pay one price and could then stay all day viewing different movies, one-after-another. There are three main themes Grindhouse films seem to include; some sense of danger, over-the-top action films (ie. Blaxploitation, karate film, women in prison) and of course fan culture.

while the others try, but fail to flee. Really the film is the epitome of a slaughterhouse thriller and holds up, even today.

When viewing a film it is important to think about the situation of the world at the time in which the film was released. This can bring about major themes and contribute to finding the true nature of where the writer and director were headed within the film in order to get their viewpoints across. In this case, the film is notably based on real events, however the deeper meaning behind the film may have been to display the reality of the injustice of which was occurring in Asia at the time. The film was made during the height of the Vietnam War, where notably many Americans were being brutally slaughtered in a setting set apart from the rest of the world.
