Virginia Woolf once said, "For most of history, anonymous was a woman." This instance resounds throughout history as women tried to fight for their equality. Women were underestimated and discredited, when they tried to do anything that could displace them from their homes or potentially set them equal to or above men. Harriet Beecher Stowe was an abolitionist woman that felt that wrote to condemn the southern states for their continuation in slavery. This showed the attitude of the women of that time. They felt that they could make a difference in society if they were aloud to. But they realized that slavery was a bigger issue at the time so they crusaded for the anti-slavery campaigns. They hoped that if they helped free the slaves that society would be willing to rethink their view of women, but reality is unfair.
