The sense of nationalism was going growing during those times and Canada was becoming more independent and having a more unique identity. Indeed there were some troubling events happening during the 1920's such was World War I which caused the death of eight and a half million people. Such events which had long lasting effects on the Canadian people during those times, such as soldiers losing some of their limbs in a time period were prosthetics were not very advanced and their abilities were very limited. Only a short scene is shown with the soldiers attempting to do farm work with just one hand, but the scene that mentions the return of the soldiers has such a strong transition, with the horns going off and the large parade of marching soldiers.
