Jay Gatsby and Tom Buchanan Both are main characters in The Great Gatsby written by F. Scott Fitzgerald. There are a lot of things similar and different between Tom Buchanan and Jay Gatsby. Jay Gatsby and Tom Buchanan are both good examples of different types if people for example the book uses the terms old money and new money which are important for the entire story.

Some similar things that both of the characters had which makes them really not like each other is that they both love a girl named Daisy. Daisy earlier in the book is in love with Jay, but when he leaves for war to support his country, Daisy falls in love with Tom and they end up getting married. Tom is the kind of person who loves to go around and show off about his wealth and he only prides himself on his money and tom seems to be a darker kid of person who thinks that the world revolves around him. Whereas Gatsby is a kind and welcoming warmhearted person, Gatsby throws parties every weekend for everyone. Gatsby even allows strangers that he has never met into his house.
