In a society where money separates live and death, social fragmentation and spectacle are used to gain totalitarian power, gender stereotypes takes place as if to force society into conforming to this behaviour and having no hierarchy of creation. Suzanne Collins disagrees with this idea and emphasizes that this can be changed by the power of the individual who can break these stereotypes. Accepting the social control is classified as survival for society and control for those in power. Katniss and Peeta express their defiance by questioning the social construction set in Panem. This quote lets us know that not only are they not able to trust each other but they can’t even discuss this topic among themselves. This leads us to how the Capitol keeps them divided.
