A story can often have more than one meaning. One person may perceive something different then someone else. Although the writer may have a specific meaning that he is trying to display, it is all right for the reader to pick up something different. The myth of Icarus has several different meanings, in art and in literature.
The original myth has a very basic story line. It is the story of a boy who dreams of flying to the sun. He makes wings of feathers and wax and proceeds to do so. His father warns him not to get too close to the sun or his wings will melt. In his quest for glory he disobeys his father and climbs higher and higher. His wings eventually do melt and he plummets to death ...

The Myth of Icarus can also be seen by an artist’s standpoint. Obviously, the main character is Icarus and what happens to him. In William Carlos William’s “Landscape With the Fall of Icarus” he reverses the roles. Instead of Icarus being the main point, he makes the background stand out, “The farmer was ploughing his field the whole pageantry.” He tells what was going on at the time of the fall of Icarus.
