The Misunderstood Man

Job is portrayed as a misunderstood, kind, and feared man in Karen Valanne’s “The China Doll”. The story begins with the narrator, Phoebe, having matured, and reading about Job’s death. She goes on to describe her only, shameful memory of Job. She continues to describe the cold winter day. In which, she runs into youngster Bonnie. She proceeds to look at Bonnie’s new doll’s dress. When Phoebe reaches over to give the doll back to Bonnie, she drops it. Bonnie appears to be flabbergasted.
