The White House, a stately and imposing structure, fully embodies the qualities of its owner, the president of the United States. Throughout the world, homes are commonly used to portray their proprietors. touring Pemberley, she finds the furniture to display "more real elegance, than that of Rosings" (Austen 164). Through these words, Austen implies that Darcy is more polite and dignified than the owner of Rosings, his own aunt, Lady Catherine de Bourgh. Also, it suggests that Elizabeth is taking a liking to Pemberley, which indicates Elizabeth may be developing a fondness to Pemberley's possessor, Mr. Darcy.
In chapter forty-three of Pride and Prejudice, Austen writes that Elizabeth is touring Darcy's home of Pemberley in Derbyshire.
