The Simpsons: A Comedy and Satire of Society

The topic of this essay essentially deals with the way in which comedy reflects or 'mirrors' reality. While The Simpsons is a light-hearted animation, it refers to actual situations and problems experienced within society. Furthermore, the essay suggests that the TV series offers a way of dealing with problems that face ordinary people in today's society.

The underlying assumption in this essay is that comedy can be read or interpreted on a number of levels. I think that this is a very valid and interesting point. I believe the importance of this essay is that comedy is seen not just as an end in itself but also as a form of social commentary and a means of coming to terms with actual problems experienced in daily life.

In terms of structure the essay is logical and well constructed. The central thesis is clearly outlined in the first paragraph, summarizing the case for The Simpsons as being much more than a superficial comedy.
