The US Economy Is In A Growth Spurt



I believe that the US economy has entered a growth spurt. I base my
beliefs on two articles that I read in my Berron's Financial Weekly.
In the November 20, 1995 edition the article titled "Almost There:
5000", on page 28, was very enlightening. It begins by crediting the surge
of 120 points that week by the Dow to the long awaited agreement between
the Democrats and the Republicans about balancing the budget..

Several investment counselors were interviewed. Even with that news,
one economist, Ed Yardeni, seemed to think that in the short term,
technical stocks would still be in trouble. He also believed that
consumers are still in "parlous shape" regarding the amount of debt ...

believes that these things will
"take their toll on employment and consumer purchasing power."

In spite of all these short-term woes that we're faced with, Yardeni is
still quite optimistic about our economic future. He recently published a
report entitled "10,000 in 2,000" which is very positive.

He believes that the end of the cold war is a definite plus. He went on
to say that "no economy in the world can match America's ability to adjust
to the new realities, he says, citing the US' flexible labor force among
other factors." He also thinks that the long term government bonds will be
a great investment.

In the November 27, 1995 issue of Berrons, an article appeared on pg.
18 titled "No Bum Steer". This article was based on the views of market
strategist, Don Hayes. Mr. Hays was very optimistic about our future. He
thought that the Dow would be up to 5,700 by election day. He sighted the
reasons for his positive attitude. He began by saying that many things ...
