In today’s world, in order to be a doctor one must go through extensive training and medical practice, in the early 1900’s that was not the case. Doctors did not know what exactly could be wrong most of the time so they made many educated guesses as to what the problem could be. In the short story “The Yellow Wallpaper” by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, a young woman, Charlotte, is treated by her husband, a doctor, to be suffering from short hysterical episodes and is instructed by him to stay in her room day and night in hopes of ridding her of this horrible ailment.
