Thrill Ride On The Rapids

Colorado is a majestic state that is known to be wondrous and beautiful. It is where the thrill junkie thrives. This sounded good to me even though, to say the least, I am not a thrill junkie. Most activities that cause great bursts of “thrill” freak me out, but I was excited, nonetheless, to spend a week and a half there. What excited me the most was the thought of seeing the picturesque mountains and breathing in the cool, crisp air. There was one downfall though. I had to go river rafting. I was having dire feelings about this particular event because if something were to go wrong while out on the rapids the consequences could be deadly. To say the least, I was a nervous wreck.

talked to us about various safety procedures. I didn’t hear much of their upbeat speech since my mind was focused on other things, like if I was going to get through this alive. After the speech, they moved everyone into a garage like space filled with wetsuits, life jackets, and helmets. I waited in line for my wetsuit. Once I got it, I went to the bathroom and changed. Let’s just say that wetsuits and life jackets aren’t the most flattering thing to wear. I chuckled to myself as I walked out of the stall and saw myself in the full sized mirror (which I’m sure was placed there strictly for laughs, perhaps to loosen the nerves). I looked like a human bobber. The life jacket made my middle look huge and the wetsuit clung to my body uncomfortably. The sight of myself in the life jacket-wetsuit attire loosened my nerves a bit, but I still had the lingering feeling of worry in my gut.
