Title IX has impacted the world of sports heavily since June 23rd, 1972 when the title was put into law. There is much debate whether if it has in fact, made the world of sports more equal or more seperated, especially at the collegiate level. Title IX has made men and womens sports more equal, to an extent. It has broadened the horizons for womens sports and vastly expanded their athletic careers, but has somewhat shoved mens sports to the wayside in doing so.

After the title was passed, more male athletes felt that it wasn’t the lack of equality that kept women from playing sports, but societies idea of what feminism is and should be. The male teams also have to be cut at a certain number, and have to fill a certain quota just to reach the level of equality established in Title IX. “…College officials will argue that there are more male athletes at their respective schools because more men want to participate. It is unfair, they argue, to discriminate against these atheletes simply because a quota needs to be met” (Source B). But whether or not officials agree on the reasoning for the cuts, more women athletes are out there, and they feel more accepted.
