There is clear evidence of prejudice and racial discrimination in Harper Lee's novel, "To Kill a Mockingbird". Mockingbirds are depicted as innocent and therefore characters are made to resemble their innocence. Like a mockingbird is harmless, so we find characters of innocence in the book in the county of Maycomb, through stereotypical mindsets and transitionally coming of age. The destruction of innocent human behaviour is shattered by the ignorant and unrighteous attitudes of the town's people, we see examples of this through the novel, from the unjustified persecution of Boo Radley to the guilty verdict of Tom Robinson and to the corruption of ...

of Mr Radley. This becomes an example of the catalyst of the prejudice. People are often afraid of what they don't understand, this comes in to play with Boo and not understanding his sealed off world. They do not understand Boo's humbled way of living, so instead they exacerbate their thoughts on him and treat him with contempt and stereotypical behaviours. Shut away from the discrimination of Maycomb, Arthur has become accustomed to his own company, he is changed which ultimately brings a change in him:
