Firstly, The United States had no right to colonize the Philippines. The only reasons we really wanted to keep them was because of our own selfish reasons. We didn't want Germany or any other Anarchy to take control of the islands. We also used their raw materials for our own trade. The Philippines unlike Cuba was on the other side of the world. The United States only wanted to achieve Manifest Destiny in the Eastern Hemisphere and thought of it as an easier way to trade with Asian Countries by having a colony close by.
