As the saying goes, “ A woman’s place is in the home,” is this
still true or is a woman’s new place in the work force? The issue of
whether married should stay at home with the children, and
do chores, or join the work force, effects this almost every household
across this country. For the past three decades, mostly the last half of
this century, the issue of gender equity has been on the lips of almost
every American citizen. Recently the issue hasn’t been the hot topic, but
still remains. Over the past few years, fifty percent of all women in the
United States have joined the work force. The work force presently is

and home. Increased gender equity has enriched
both sexes. Today’s women are entitled to be apart of the life their
mothers had to fight to live. Jennifer Wedberg states, “Life is more
complex now, you have to figure out what to do with your life, be a
housewife or a working woman.” A woman’s personal identity includes a job
or career. According to Christopher Moeller, “More people should value
equality and people wanting self-esteem, which is what a job sometimes
gives a woman.” James Lindow stays at home with the children while his
wife works and he claims it doesn’t bother him. But according to surveys,
two out of three men and women feel they can’t live on just one salary. If
they could they would willingly quit their jobs.

Working mothers basically have two jobs the one they get paid for
and the one that’s voluntary, taking care of the home and children. They
do two times as much housework as their husbands do, which on average is
twenty hours a week, down from thirty ...
