My first response thought is "Goddam! What a boring topic to be forced to write about!" This is a classic Jason Bullshit Topic. I just read it and my mind begins to make up half-truths and opinions about it. Anything I don't know I can speculate about or just make up in a way that sounds true. Hence the bullshit. I just throw out a bunch of nonsense and then tie it all together with some obscure point or closing. I make it sound intelligent, but it really has no emotional value. It's hard to actually get emotionally involved on a topic that seems so stale. It's kind of a shame to turn conversation into writing. in the group would have to be willing to openly hear the other person's side and give an honest judgement of it. Even though someone might not want to give an opinion usually everyone leans toward one direction or another on any topic.
The cons are the disagreements, well that could also be a plus. When you work with a group it is a free ride. Everyone needs to participate for an effective collaboration.

It is always better to work by yourself. This is an error because an individual opinion is one sided and close minded. I certainly agree that people usually lean towards one side of a topic. But I also believe that major ideas can change. One day you may think a certain way and then the next something can happen to completely change your mind the other way.
