Managing Temporary Construction Workers
[ send me this paper ]
A 6 page paper analyzing the special problems of managing construction teams composed of both permanent and temporary workers. Temporary employment is the fastest-growing of all employment sectors as a greater percentage of positions are filled with employees for which the employer has no tax or benefit responsibility. There are nearly as many reasons for the use of temporaries as there are organizations using them, one of which is to ease the demands of labor needs during peak seasons so that they can preserve permanent positions when less work is available. The special concern in construction is the melding of individuals into a productive team whose members trust each other's competence and attention to safety. Temporaries can assimilate into these teams but must be retained to preserve the team's resulting levels of productivity. Bibliography lists 10 sources.
