China: US Foreign Policy After WTO Accession

A 10 page paper discussing how the bureaucratic politics model has influenced US foreign policy regarding China since China's accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO). China's need for greater economic prosperity for its people and greater international acceptance likely have been the driving forces behind its willingness to make any concessions at all to US requests. Certainly all conditions in China do not fit with the US' conception of democracy and individual freedom. The bureaucratic politics model has provided a means of reaching a common ground of understanding in which each side can maintain healthy respect for the other while making beneficial concessions that do not compromise either country's national sovereignty.
