Automation And Employee Downsizing
[ send me this paper ]
5 pages in length. The technological boom is about to squeeze two otherwise talented and experienced people out of work. The company in question has five employees in all; however, with the advent of automation there is now only need for three people to do the job of what used to take five. Being displaced by technological advancement is not easy to accept. Inasmuch as it is difficult enough to lose one's job to human competition, there is simply no way to challenge the artificial abilities of a machine when compared to human capacity. When the company implements this particular imaging technology, it will all but do away with the need for microfilm, thus reducing the workload by nearly eighty percent. What does the company do with the
employees who are being replaced through technical
automation? Are they able to be retrained elsewhere within the company, or does the company have no alternative but to let them go? Clearly, there are both pros and cons with regard to technical automation when viewed from the employee's perspective, depending upon which receiving end the individual happens to be. Bibliography lists 3 sources.
