Combating Drugs Within The Work Environment
[ send me this paper ]
14 pages in length. The workplace is a source of considerable stress. In order to cope with the pressures often associated with one's job, a person sometimes turns to drugs as a way out. At first, substance use may appear to be an easy thing to keep in control, but if office stress continues at the same or even elevated pace, casual drug use soon turns to abuse. Sick days come to frequently, lateness becomes a regular occurrence and job performance begins to suffer. Studies into the reasons why drug abuse is an issue in the workplace have presented wide and varied findings. Significant to the job market is the fact that men have consistently ranked higher than women with regard to overall drug use. Being that men staff the American workforce to a large extent, these findings indicate that the workplace drug problem is even more of a concern with companies that utilize primarily male employees. The writer discusses the social impact of on-the-job drug abuse, as well as discusses preventive measures. Bibliography lists 15 sources.
