Effects Of High-Stakes Tests
[ send me this paper ]
This 46 page paper presents a hypothetical research study that investigates the effects of high-stakes standardized norm-referenced tests on fourth grade students and teachers. Standardized norm-referenced tests have been an issue of great controversy for many years. The implementation of standards and high-stakes testing has only fueled that controversy. While the purpose of high-stakes testing may be laudable, the results are not. More and more studies report the harmful effects of these testing programs on both students and teachers. Good teachers have had to change the focus of instruction as well as their teaching practices to meet the demands of these testing programs. The pressure is profound teachers, students and administrators. This essay provides a comprehensive overview of high-stakes testing. As a hypothetical research study, the paper includes an introduction, definitions, purpose of study, problem statement, hypotheses, extensive literature review, methodology of the study, discussion and conclusion. The 'subjects' are 4th grade students and teachers in New York. Statistical data are included throughout the paper. Bibliography lists 18 sources. PGhistk.rtf

Effects Of Twenty-Five Year Retirement On Public Education
[ send me this paper ]
8 pages in length. The effect of twenty-five year retirement upon public education is wide and varied, both from a monetary point of view as well as from an academic one. Educators and administrators who have endured a quarter century within the educational system reside at both ends of the scale, in that there are those who, after serving twenty five years, are still capable of carrying out quality instruction; others, however, should have been removed from the system even before their first decade. The writer discusses what influence public education experiences regarding retirement at the twenty five year mark. Bibliography lists 6 sources.

Emerging Views on School Vouchers and School Choice
[ send me this paper ]
A 20 page paper discussing the steady gains being made in approval of the concept of using tax-funded vouchers for families to place their children in schools of their own choice, even private ones and even religious-based private schools. The goal is to improve true educational outcomes and to provide approaches to education that can work for all students, rather than only some percentage of them. Without the intrusion of crisis, there is little reason to change the status quo in any area, whether that area be business, personal relationships or public school structure. The voucher debate presents that crisis point from which public schools can begin to be truly reformed and lifted out from under the burden of bureaucracy. All can benefit, but none more than our children who deserve the best education we can provide. The current situation is far from the 'best,' a point on which supporters and opponents of vouchers can heartily agree. Bibliography lists 22 sources.
