Student Motivation

A 48 page research paper that explores the topic of student motivation. Current research studies addressing this topic are reviewed by category, with particular emphasis on studies addressing student populations in New Zealand and those addressing Chinese students. The topic is defined, and, then, due to the emphasis placed on researching motivation research as it applies to New Zealand, New Zealand student statistics are briefly reviewed. The next section delineates the two research questions investigated, which are: How to manage a large multicultural classroom and how to manage student motivation in a predominantly Chinese classroom. The literature review section follows and includes the following topics: the concept of motivation and how it relates to teaching; trends in motivational research; trends in classroom management; models of motivation and classroom management and studies relating to Chinese students. The review is followed by evaluation, conclusions, a summary of the review and indicated areas for future research, as well as the writer's reflections on this topic. A 1-page abstract is included.
