Marcel Proust's "Sodom And Gomorrah" - Queer Theory
[ send me this paper ]
8 pages in length. The concept of homosexuality has been an integral component of literary history; that myriad authors have employed it in both subtle and blatant fashion throughout the centuries speaks to its overwhelming presence. Marcel Proust's Sodom and Gomorrah, legendary for its gay overtones, fashions an association between the oppressive tenets of social dictate and the subcultures that pay no attention to such repression. However, the extent to which one can examine Sodom and Gomorrah from the standpoint of queer theory rests upon one's ability to understand the fundamental basis of being queer. Opposing Laws Against Gay Marriage
[ send me this paper ]
3 pages in length. Man is constantly reinventing itself as a species in order to maintain an ongoing and progressive status; if he were remain idle without benefit of continued growth and advancement as a collective of living beings, he would soon cease to exist. Whether social, political, economic, cultural or technological, progression is the driving force behind the positive nature of change. Why, therefore, is the notion of gay marriage considered so morally offensive that laws must be enacted to prevent it? If there is one thing that reflects man's capacity for progress and change, it is the tolerance to accept gay marriage as a viable alternative to heterosexual unions; to pass judgment by virtue of legal infiltration is for humanity to inequitably pick and choose which aspects of contemporary evolution are recognized based upon nothing more substantial than personal opinion. But perhaps even more importantly is how laws against gay marriage ultimately exist for no other reason than to deprive same-sex couples of equal rights and benefits. Bibliography lists 4 sources.

Oscar Wilde: Reflection Of Homosexuality In His Works
[ send me this paper ]
7 pages in length. Did Oscar Wilde's homosexual tendencies provide the author with a hidden theme throughout his works? Some have argued that the author's anxieties with regard to his own homosexuality represents a subtle but obvious enough underlying theme. Although the characters in Oscar Wilde's stories are all in heterosexual relationships, critics contend that there exists an undercurrent of homosexual desire between and among the main characters. They cite that in many of his works, exposure of a secret sin or indiscretion and consequent disgrace is central in design, clearly symbolizing the author's penchant toward homosexuality throughout his literary creations. The writer discusses how one only needs to peruse the myriad pages of Wilde's works in order to ascertain the truth: there is no homosexual reference, hidden or otherwise. Bibliography lists 4 sources.
