Psychosocial Functioning Of The Family
[ send me this paper ]
14 pages in length. Lisa was fed up with hiding the fact that she was a lesbian. While she was not quite sure how her family would react to such news, she had reached the end of her rope; no longer could she continue living a lie. If her mom and dad are not receptive to her sexual orientation,
she pondered, she was old enough to live on her own. To be sure, living in a house where homosexuality is a dirty word is no place for Lisa. Her brother, on the other hand, would
be openly accepting of her alternative lifestyle, inasmuch as he had always been the underdog who can relate to being different. Would that automatically brand her family as dysfunctional, even though her parents were pillars of the
community? On the outside, Lisa and her brother were always putting forth an image quite removed from their real selves as a means by which to uphold their parent's social representation. But now, thought Lisa, it was time for her to relinquish the deep-seated guilt associated with her
well-to-do white bread family and take back her own life. The writer discusses how her family reacts to the news, as well as how it impacts the family structure. Bibliography lists 17 sources.
