Realism-Driven Actions of the US Government Since World War II

A 5 page paper providing examples of realist actions taken by the US government in its dealings with foreign nations. As a mode of practice, the realist school appears to be unattractive and uncaring at best. However, it has been realism on which much of America's current success has been built, and it is realism that has produced much of the prosperity we now enjoy that enables us to share that prosperity with others while still gaining benefit for ourselves as well. Cold War Consequences

The Cold War was a war of ideology that had it's beginnings in the aftermath of World War II and the redistribution of power. The two great powers, the United States and the Soviet Union struggled for a balance of power in a world where even the definitions of peace had changed. The Cold war had the effect of generating an active defense of American capitalism. Private enterprise economy was seen as a viable and stable economic system. Economic freedom and political democracy were commingled in the eyes of the world, much as communism and authoritarian government were. This 5 page paper examines some of the changes wrought by the ending of the Cold War and the changes that might be expected in the future. Bibliography lists 7 sources.

The Origins Of Totalitarianism

Written during the height of the Cold War, Hannah Arendt's 'The Origins of Totalitarianism' discusses worldwide tensions and problematic scenarios of former tyrannies that contributed to the eventual creation of the most ruthless form of government that exists in our contemporary society. The Early Days of the Cold War

A 5 page paper discussing the beginnings of the Cold War. NATO is discussed as well as the necessity for such an organization. A brief respite from the tension is described. Kennedy and Khrushchev were perhaps the greatest players in the Cold War and their involvement is discussed. A 10 page piece that discusses the self-fulfilling prophecy of the Cold War, in that the buildup of arms against the perceived threat to borders and national economic stability, created an atmosphere of fear and annihilation.
