Emergence of Liberalism in the United States

This 12 page
report discusses the various societal and cultural dimensions,
especially in terms of political ideology, that served as the
framework for the emergence of liberalism in America in the late
18th century and the first half of the 19th century. The
liberalism that emerged in America during the 19th century was
the product of many different currents of thought or “cultural
dimensions” that had developed over the approximately 100 years
between the American Revolution and the Civil War. The origins
of liberal ideas conflicted with the established practices of
republicanism and resulted in a certain degree of conflict
regarding the importance and the actual definition of democracy.

Examination of this chapter demonstrates the basic conflict not only between how the Native Americans perceived the natural world, but also between how different groups of Europeans perceived it. Equality for All?: The Failure of the American Revolution to Obtain Equality for Either African Americans or Women

A 5 page contention that the American Revolution, and indeed the years following that revolution, did little toward changing the inequalities which existed in this country in regard to African Americans and women.
