Sin is universal; it is as old as man himself. People have committed all types of sin and been punished for it. There is however disagreement when it comes to how severe punishment should be. Some people believe that sinners should be punished deeply no matter how trivial their sin was. Some argue that the punishment should be based on the severity of the sin. This much leads to the question, what is the measure of scale for the severity of sin. What is trivial to one might appear extreme to the other. She tries to make her sin right. The first thing she does is embrace it. She accepts her mistake but fights to right it. She does not shy away from society but instead engages herself in charity work to help the less able in society. She is giving back to a society that has given her nothing.
She fights to keep her child. Just because Pearl is a product of her sin does not mean Pearl is sin itself.
