African-American Civil Rights Movement, King was arrested on October 19, 1960 at a Atlanta department store. King went to jail for four months on a charge for violating probation for a previous traffic arrest case. Next year, Martin on December 15,1961 was arrested again, but for a different reason. It was for fighting to desegregate public facilities in Albany, Georgia. He got charged for obstructing the sidewalk and parading without a permit (Janken,"Civil Rights Movement”) . Then on May 11, 1963, Martin Luther King’s house gets wiped out by a bomb and an explosion happens at his headquarters which was located in the Gaston Motel. The way African Americans responded to the bombings, was an enormous riot in Birmingham.
