Eating disorder statistics, provided by the National Eating Disorder Association, indicate that 10 million American women suffer from eating disorders. Anorexia itself is the third most common chronic illness among adolescents. Although Anorexia doesn’t have any definite causes, it can all be diagnosed, there are sings and symptoms, as well as different ways to be treated and overcame. there are more people in this country that are over weight or have an eating disorder than there are at a normal weight. ...

Most believe this is a psychological disorder because the person become extremely underweight yet they still see themselves as over weight and continue this lifestyle. Diagnosis becomes very difficult because the illness is usually kept a secrete and individuals very rarely seek medical attention because they don’t believe they have a problem. It isn’t usually diagnosed until a friend or family member notices the weight loss and convinces the individual to seek help. By this time underling damage as already been done and this person is most likely malnourished. Although there are four basic criteria for diagnosing anorexia. First, The refusal to maintain body weight at or above a minimally normal weight for age and height, which is a body weight less than 85% of the expected weight. Second, an intense fear of gaining weight or becoming fat, even though the person is underweight. Third, self-perception that the body is grossly disproportional. ...
