There are many different ways to play . The traditional way that most people play is five - on - five. Five - on - five is played by two opposing teams in which each team has five players on the court during play. The five players are broken down by there coaches into different positions. There are two shooting guards, two power forwards, and one center. Each position plays a specific role on the team.

Basketball contains a variety of rules and regulations. These rules and regulations are enforced by two men called officials or referees. The officials are on the floor with the teams where they follow the game closely. When one of the officials identifies that a rule has been broken he or she will blow on a whistle which lets the players know to stop play. When a player breaks a rule it is called a foul.
