The development in which I have chosen to present to the class is Body Armor. I have chosen this topic because it has had a profound affect on the world and is one of the oldest innovations around today. Armor was first used when man first had violent confrontations on a large scale, or wars. The results from war were often horrendous and far too many lives were lost. The need was seen for protection. That answer was armor, it first originated as shields of wood, hide, or bone. In later times, the shields showed many flaws, many of the shields were not maneuverable enough to be highly effective. the early days of the United States of America, body armor was not endorsed by military officials, but the soldiers of the civil war bought their armor from traveling peddlers on their on accord, the most popular piece was known as the ``Soldier's Bullet Proof Vest'' manufactured by G & D Cook & company based out of New haven Connecticut, the soldiers of that time were very cautious of the weight of their gear, they would only carry what was necessary, so the vests sold must have been very well worth the weight.
