"The Laugher" by Heinrich Boll is a short story that deals with a
man and his profession. This is a symbolic story that explains the
protaginist's life, characteristics and profession.
The laugher descibes humself as a claque at night clubs. Bol writes
" So i spent most evening in night clubs as a kind of discreet claque, my
job being to laugh infectiously during the weaker parts of the program"
This quote implies that he is only luahging to gets paid.
It also shows that he is laughing on perpse so the he would the
comedians make their image better in the night clubs. He is also a very

During the first years of our married liek my wife would often say too me "
Do Laugh !"" This quote show that his wife never heard his real life. She
had always heard his " fake " laugh. She is telling him to laugh on
purpose. She is encouraging him to laugh so the she can hera his " real "
laugh. Boll writes " SO our marriage is a quiet, peaceful one, because my
has also forgotten how to laugh: now and again I catch her smiling and I
smile too." This quote protrays that they have never seen eeach other smile.
