Parents often hid their children to keep them from the wraths of the Nazis. The hiding places often included pantries, toilets, walls, chimneys, and floorboards. We know about one family’s experiences in hiding through Anne Frank’s diary. On her 13th birthday, Anne’s mother gave her a diary, soon after the family moved into hiding. The hiding place was located in an empty section of Otto Frank’s company. It was soon concealed behind a movable bookcase. Anne often writes of the experiences of the family in her precious diary. In 1944, the family was betrayed by a family friend, which led to them being found shortly after by a SS-Officer. They were then moved to concentration camps. Anne and her sister, Margot, both were soon ill with Typhus, the pair died soon after.
