The leaders of today must have excellent relationship skills to inspire and motivate others. In their relationships with others they must be open, honest, and trustworthy. Good leaders must have a thorough, objective and complete view of a situation. are of the utmost importance. Being able to give orders alone does not make a leader. Research on problem solving in groups suggests that there are two types of leadership roles, the task specialist and the social emotional specialists. Years ago, Robert Bales and his colleagues performed a set of experiments on leadership. The subjects were groups of male college students. They were brought together in a laboratory and given certain intellectual problems to solve. This research measured each man’s verbal behaviors as objectively as they could. At the end of each session the subjects were asked to rate each member of their group in a number of ways. including how much they liked each other and which men seemed to be leaders or have the best ideas.
