The Constitution says that the states must accept the legal proceedings of other states this includes marriages. When the state of Vermont legalized gay unions Congress passed legislation telling all the states that they could decide whether they would accept gay unions from Vermont. Since then Massachusetts has legalized gay marriages and most states have amended their constitutions to define marriage as a man and women. You are Supreme Court justice and the matter is now before you how do you rule and why?

It seems to me that if the straight community cannot show a compelling reason to deny the institution of marriage to gay people, it should be denied. And such simple, nebulous declarations are hardly a compelling reason. They're really more like an expression of prejudge than any kind of a real argument. The concept of not denying people their rights unless you can show a compelling reason to do so is the very basis of the American ideal of human rights. I believe that if I were to accept guy marriage the following situation will happen. Same-sex marriage would start us down a "slippery slope" towards legalized incest, bestial marriage, polygamy and all manner of other horrible consequences.
