There are many things in this play that one could write on. There seems to be a sense of false reality throughout the whole play. Their lives are simple and to the point, and have no where to go. It also seems that the family is cluttered in their small house with no where to go. Tom's only outlet is when he says he is going to the movies, but really goes to the bar and comes home drunk almost every night. he is so confined in his house that he has to get out to get away from his scatterbrained mother who is very controlling. I believe the one thing in the play I am most intigued by is that Laura is much like her unicorn that sits on the shelf.

Laura is much like the unicorn that sits on her shelf. The unicorn is different from all the other horses in that it has a single horn on its head. The unicorn is Laura's favorite, and is also the first glass piece she made. i think this represents how she looks at herself as an individual. She is set apart by her indiffrence, and cannot change the wayshe looks at herself. She want to feel like she is special, but never gets acceptance from her classmates. In Laura's the unicorn is looked to as special and better than all the rest. This is how she really wants it to be in real life. She wants to be better and stonger than anyone.
Day in and day out, Laura's life is the same, just like the unicorn that stays on the shelf. If she could just overcome her fear and do something with herlife, shecould feel better about herself.
