Golgi Complex

The Golgi Complex is one of many organelle's found in Eukaryotic cells. It is also called the Golgi Apparatus. It was discovered in 1898 by Camillo Golgi when he described and internal reticular apparatus in nerve cells. It soon was clear that is occurred in a variety of cell types. The organelle was questioned for decades until it was seen with electron microscopy. It was destined to become a major part in research in cytology and cell biology in the twentieth century. It was named after Camillo Golgi, the Italian physician who discovered it.

The Golgi Complex is made of a collection of vesicles and folded membranes in the cell. It ...

to be exported out of the cell or transported to a different location in the cell. Proteins and Lipids that are built in the ER bud off in little vesicles that move throughout the cytoplasm till they get to the Golgi Apparatus. The vesicles fuse with the Golgi Membranes and release what is stored in them into the Apparatus. The Golgi Complex adds molecules or removes parts, and when completed sends the product to it's final destination.

The Golgi Apparatus mainly interacts with the Endoplasmic Reticulum. It gets it's proteins and lipid's from there. In many cases the Golgi Apparatus and the Rough and Smooth ER are actually attached to one another. This helps them work easily together.

It is said that the Golgi Apparatus has an affect with Alzheimer's disease. It basically says that the Golgi body gets deformed and doesn't transport what needs to be transported in the cell. It is a major function of the cell and without it working correctly things may go wrong. The Golgi ...
