College closures have been on the rise recently due to tough economic times, the hardest hit have been small private institutions. However, in times when budgets are tight, colleges have opted to reduce academic offerings or close a campus. Case in point: SUNY Stony Brook. Expecting tens of millions of dollars in state funding cuts, the university closed the Southampton campus and moved classes to the main campus, an expected savings of 6.7 million a year.
