One of his artistic innovations was the creation of Vitruvian Man. This painting was the first of its kind because it outlined how the human body should be correctly proportioned when painted or drawn. Before Leonardo created Vitruvian Man, artists depicted the human body in an unrealistic, unbalanced not proportional way. From his drawing, Leonardo was able to create a guideline which immediately became a guide for all artists to use in their works in order to create more realistic works and it is still used today.
The creation of the Vitruvian Man drawing was only possible because of Leonardo’s fascination with the human body. In his spare time, he would secretly dig up bodies and dissect them, just so he could observe and record his findings to then be able to use in his works of art.
