of the land faced oppression from Western settlers as rights of land and property were in favor of these new foreigners as they were able to exploit resources of the island and ocean and overtake local business along Honolulu’s harbors. In response, the natives held little power in revolting as “White Chiefs” such as Englishmen Isaac Davis favored such Western changes. Many of the natives were simply left to relocate to the outskirts permanently, leaving the congested down-town area to workmen and growing businessmen. As the land was losing its’ inherited culture, Hawaii saw economic prosperity in its’ future during the late eighteenth century as it was finally declared a city.
