Immigration has played a big part in the formation of the United States. People from abroad have come here for years with the aspirations of bettering themselves while improving the resources they make use of in the U.S. For immigrants, the plentiful jobs and abundant land available to escape the oppression suffered in their native countries were the main reasons for traveling to America. For most, America was seen as a place where one could start over and have an equivalent chance of success or failure regardless of the country he or she came from.

you can imagine, immigrating here is not always accessible to all types of individuals. Some choose to be admitted into the U.S legally. Others attempt to cross the borders into America illegally. Regardless of the method used to enter the U.S, most of the recipients have one thing in common, to find a better way of life, something that is obtainable in the United States for both illegal and legal immigrants.

Let's start by examining some of the historical events that helped shape immigration in the United States. "During the 17[th] to the beginning of the 19[th] century marked the largest movement of immigration to America" (Diner). The immigrant settlers came from a wide array of countries. "This diverse mix-up included the German-speaking area of the Palatinate, France, and the Netherlands" (Diner). Some of the other immigrants that came brought with them different religious beliefs.
