Every Parent wonders if their child's behavior is normal or abnormal. We often wonder if our child is developing on track with their peers or not. We may even question rather the child is handling social situations as other children .The child may handle stressful times in an unusual way. Some behaviors are very obvious (like self-mutilation or violence in the older child); many other behaviors are a little more difficult to notice. The same should apply if a child is harming himself. Some babies and small children will bang their heads every once in a while, but harmful, repetitive self-harming behaviors should be evaluated by a specialist.
How often does the child behave in such a manner? If the behavior is something that has only happened once or twice it may not be an issue, but if it is a behavior that is repetitive, despite the consequences then the behavior may be an issue. It is quite normal for children to try us as parents but if the behavior seems to progress and doesn't seem to be "normal" or typical, we should address the issue with a psychologist.
