Sacred Edicts

The "Sacred Edicts" was produced around 1662 and was kept in the same format until it was revised in 1723. Its original purpose was to be used in local rituals and village lectures. The most important words in the Sacred Edicts are probably number three: "Cultivate peace and concord in your neighborhoods, in order to prevent quarrels and litigations." This edict seems the most important because its expressing that we not only make peace with our neighbors in the city but the country make peace with its neighboring countries to prevent misunderstandings, fights, and even war.
